You leave a relationship and find yourself in the same dynamic with the next person. You resolve a conflict with one family member and the identical pattern emerges with another. You work on yourself, do the therapy, read the books, do the healing work — and yet the same pain returns, wearing a different face, in a different situation, at a different point in your life. If this sounds familiar — if you have ever felt the exhausting recognition of a pattern repeating that you were sure you had dealt with — you are experiencing what Vedic philosophy calls a karmic loop. This episode is dedicated to understanding precisely what a karmic loop is, why it exists, and most importantly, the specific steps required to break it permanently.

Welcome to Episode 7 of the Rinaanubandh Series. In the previous six episodes we built the complete foundation of karmic understanding — what Rinaanubandh is, how it survives death, the difference from karma, the Padma Purana’s teaching on irrevocable debt, Krishna and Sudama’s example of karmic settlement, and the distinctions between soulmates, twin flames and karmic partners. In this episode we apply that understanding to one of the most practically urgent questions in the entire series — why do the same patterns keep repeating, and what does it actually take to stop them?

What Is a Karmic Loop?

A karmic loop is a repeating cycle of experience — a pattern of thought, emotion, relationship dynamic, or life circumstance — that a soul keeps encountering across time because the underlying karmic lesson it carries has not yet been learned and integrated at the soul level.

The loop operates like this. A soul carries an unresolved karmic lesson — let us say the lesson of self-worth and the right to be treated with dignity. This lesson, because it was not learned in a previous lifetime, is encoded in the soul’s energetic field as an open requirement — an experience that must be had, a understanding that must be reached, before this chapter of the soul’s journey can close. The universe, in its infinite intelligence, arranges experiences that will provide exactly the conditions in which that lesson can be learned. These experiences arrive as relationships, situations, and circumstances that reflect the core of the unlearned lesson back to the soul with the precision of a mirror.

✦   How a Karmic Loop Operates   ✦
Stage 1 Unresolved karmic lesson carried forward from previous lifetime in soul’s energetic field
Stage 2 Universe creates circumstances — relationships, situations, challenges — that reflect the lesson
Stage 3 Soul experiences the pain but responds from old conditioning — same reaction, same outcome
Stage 4 Lesson remains unlearned — karmic requirement still unfulfilled — loop continues
Stage 5 New circumstance arrives — different faces, different setting — same essential lesson
↻   The Loop Repeats Until the Lesson Is Genuinely Learned   ↻

The crucial point — and this is what makes karmic loops so persistent and so frustrating — is that the loop does not repeat because the universe is cruel or because you are being punished. It repeats because the soul has not yet responded to the lesson in a way that demonstrates genuine learning at the energetic level. Intellectual understanding of a lesson is not the same as soul-level integration of it. You can understand, with complete intellectual clarity, that you deserve to be treated with respect — and still, at the energetic level, carry a pattern of accepting disrespect that recreates the same dynamic in relationship after relationship.

The Difference Between a Life Challenge and a Karmic Loop

Not every difficulty is a karmic loop. Not every repeated experience is a loop. Life contains natural cycles of challenge and growth that are not karmic loops — they are simply the ordinary rhythms of human experience. The distinguishing features of a genuine karmic loop are specific and recognisable.

  • The pattern recurs across fundamentally different circumstances. A karmic loop does not just repeat in similar situations. It finds you across completely different contexts — different relationships, different cities, different life stages — because it is not generated by external circumstances. It is generated by the internal energetic pattern the soul carries.
  • The emotional charge is disproportionate. When you encounter the core wound of a karmic loop the emotional response is significantly more intense than the current situation alone would warrant. This disproportionate charge is the signature of a pattern that carries the weight of multiple lifetimes of accumulated experience.
  • Conventional healing does not fully resolve it. Therapy, self-help, positive thinking, and willpower can all provide relief and partial resolution — but they address the loop at the psychological level without reaching the karmic root. The pattern keeps returning because its root is deeper than the current lifetime.
  • You recognise it in the moment but cannot stop the response. People caught in karmic loops frequently have the experience of watching themselves repeat the same pattern with full awareness — knowing they are doing it, unable to stop it. This gap between conscious knowing and behavioural change is the signature of a pattern operating at the soul level rather than the personality level.
  • It involves the same core theme regardless of surface variation. The faces change. The circumstances change. The specific events change. But the core theme — abandonment, unworthiness, betrayal, powerlessness, self-sacrifice at the expense of self — remains constant. This thematic consistency across varied surface experience is the clearest marker of a karmic loop.

The Five Most Common Karmic Loops

Across two decades of working with thousands of clients through Akashic Records readings, tarot readings, and karmic healing sessions, I have observed that most karmic loops fall into one of five core themes. Most people carry more than one — often two or three operating simultaneously, sometimes feeding into each other.

✦   The Five Core Karmic Loops

Which One Do You Recognise?

The Abandonment Loop: Every significant relationship eventually ends in the other person leaving — physically, emotionally, or through death. The soul carries a deep terror of abandonment that paradoxically creates the conditions for abandonment by either clinging in ways that push people away or choosing people who are fundamentally unavailable.

The Unworthiness Loop: Despite external achievement, recognition, and love from others, the soul carries a core belief of fundamental unworthiness — of not being enough, not deserving good things, not meriting the love that is offered. This loop creates patterns of self-sabotage, accepting less than is deserved, and an inability to receive fully.

The Betrayal Loop: The people the soul trusts most deeply — partners, friends, family members, business associates — betray that trust with a consistency that cannot be explained by poor judgement alone. The soul is carrying the energetic signature of a profound past-life betrayal that continues to attract its mirror in every lifetime until the lesson of discernment and self-protection is learned.

The Powerlessness Loop: The soul consistently finds itself in relationships and situations where its power is diminished, its voice is silenced, or its choices are controlled by others. The loop perpetuates because the soul has not yet learned the specific quality of self-authority and boundary-setting that would make it impossible for this dynamic to recreate itself.

The Self-Sacrifice Loop: The soul gives endlessly — of its time, energy, resources, and emotional availability — to others, while consistently neglecting its own needs. This loop carries the karmic residue of a previous lifetime in which self-sacrifice was necessary for survival or was genuinely virtuous — but which has become a pattern that no longer serves either the soul or those it gives to.

“A karmic loop is not a punishment. It is an unanswered question. The universe keeps asking it — in different voices, in different circumstances, with different people — until the soul finally understands what is being asked and responds from a genuinely different place.” — Dr. Monica Agarwal

Why Willpower and Awareness Alone Cannot Break a Karmic Loop

This is the most important — and most frustrating — truth about karmic loops. You cannot think your way out of one. You cannot willpower your way out of one. You cannot simply decide, however sincerely, that you will not repeat the pattern — and have that decision actually hold at the level at which the loop operates.

The reason is precise. A karmic loop operates at the energetic level of the soul — at a level deeper than the conscious personality, deeper than the psychological patterns formed in this lifetime, deeper than the beliefs and stories the analytical mind creates about itself. Approaches that work at the personality level — positive affirmations, cognitive restructuring, even most forms of psychotherapy — are genuinely valuable and create real partial change. But they address the loop at the level of the branch, not the root.

The root of a karmic loop lives in the soul’s accumulated energetic field — in the Akashic Records, in the subtle body that the soul carries across lifetimes. Real, permanent breaking of a karmic loop requires working at that level. And that is why the combination of Akashic Records work, energetic healing, and specific karmic clearing practices — which we will explore in full depth in Month 3 of this series — produces results that intellectual and psychological approaches alone cannot.

The Seven Steps to Breaking a Karmic Loop Permanently

  1. Recognise the pattern with complete honesty. Not the surface events — the core theme. What is the one emotional truth that runs through every repetition of this pattern in your life? Name it precisely. Abandonment. Unworthiness. Betrayal. Powerlessness. Self-sacrifice. The more precisely you can name the core theme, the more effectively you can work with it.
  2. Stop blaming the cast of characters. The specific people who appear in a karmic loop are not the cause of the loop. They are the universe’s messengers — souls who have agreed at the karmic level to play a specific role in your learning. Continuing to focus on what they did, how they hurt you, or how they should change keeps your attention on the symptom rather than the source.
  3. Identify the lesson the loop is teaching. Every karmic loop carries a specific lesson — a quality of consciousness, a capacity for self-respect, a form of wisdom — that the soul needs to develop in order for the loop to have fulfilled its purpose. What quality would you need to have developed, what understanding would you need to have reached, for this pattern to become impossible in your life? That quality is the lesson.
  4. Work at the energetic root — not just the psychological surface. Use specific energy healing practices to address the loop at the level of the subtle body — where the karmic pattern is actually stored. Cord cutting meditations, Reiki healing focused on the specific karmic wound, Akashic Records work to identify and clear the original source of the pattern, and ancestral healing if the loop carries a generational component. We will cover specific practices for each of the five core loops in Month 3.
  5. Respond differently in the next moment of triggering. The universe tests whether the lesson has been genuinely learned by continuing to create the triggering circumstances until it sees a new response. When the familiar trigger appears — the familiar person, the familiar dynamic, the familiar emotional charge — the loop-breaking response is the new one. Not the old reaction dressed up in different words. A genuinely different response emerging from a genuinely different understanding.
  6. Practice the new response consistently until it becomes your default. One new response in one triggered moment is the beginning. The loop breaks completely when the new response becomes the default — when the soul’s energetic pattern has genuinely shifted to the point where the old triggering circumstances no longer generate the old charge. This requires consistent practice across multiple triggering events, usually over a period of several months to a year of conscious, committed work.
  7. Complete the karmic accounting. For loops that involve specific people from your past — former partners, parents, siblings, old friends — genuine energetic completion of the account between you is often required for permanent loop-breaking. This may involve direct reconciliation where appropriate and possible. More often it involves the internal work of genuine forgiveness, cord-cutting, and energetic release — performed with the specific intention of settling the karmic account between your souls, not just relieving your own emotional pain.
“The loop breaks not when the universe stops sending the lesson — but when the soul finally stops needing it. When you have genuinely learned what the pattern was teaching — when the quality it was calling you to develop is now living in you — the circumstances that sustained the loop simply have no more purchase. They arrive and find nothing to attach to.” — Dr. Monica Agarwal

How to Know When a Karmic Loop Has Genuinely Broken

  • The triggering circumstances arrive but the old emotional charge does not. The situation that used to devastate you now lands differently — you can see it clearly, respond thoughtfully, and move forward without being consumed by it.
  • You make a different choice without having to force it. The new response emerges naturally rather than requiring conscious effort and willpower — because the energetic pattern has genuinely shifted rather than being temporarily suppressed.
  • The same type of person or situation stops appearing. When the karmic lesson has been genuinely integrated, the universe stops sending the curriculum. The specific type of relationship or circumstance that was the vehicle for the loop simply stops arriving — because it is no longer needed.
  • You feel a specific quality of lightness or spaciousness in an area where you previously felt heaviness or constriction. This is the energetic signature of a cleared pattern — not the absence of difficulty, but a different quality of relationship with difficulty in that specific area of your life.
  • You can speak about the old pattern with compassion rather than charge. When you can discuss the people and experiences involved in the loop with genuine compassion for everyone involved — including yourself — rather than with residual anger, grief, or self-blame, the energetic work is largely complete.
